The Pebble Painting activity on the Big Little Arts Weekend stand at the Rushlake Green Summer show proved to be a big attraction and resulted in some brilliant Little Works of Art. It was great to see how immediately kids got the idea – starting to create artworks without a moment’s hesitation. There’s something about having a very small ‘canvas’ to play with that seems to free up people’s imaginations.
The free painting activity quickly became a destination for families with kids, giving the Little Arts team an opportunity to talk about the Open Art Exhibition at the Big Little Arts Weekend in September, and reminding visitors to the stand that the Open Art Exhibition is just that. It’s open to everyone – all ages, all levels of artistic experience, all types of artistic style and format.
So if you’ve never put an artwork into an exhibition, or not since you were at school, now’s the time to have a go. It could be a peble painting, it could be a big colourful canvas, a piece of 3D work, a drawing, a print, some digital graphics or manga, or even a short piece of film or a computer game. We welcome visual creations of all forms.
And if you’re an more experienced artist, keen to find new patrons for your work, the opening Preview Night always attracts a big crowd of local arts enthusiasts, giving you an opportunity to make sales and get noticed.
